Note: Mats close to the skin can cause permanent damage and should be removed as soon as possible. If your cat has painful mats, please email us at zengroomingspa@gmail.com so we can get your cat in as soon as possible.
Mats are tight tangles that form in unkempt fur and stitch together, often when a cat doesn’t groom themselves properly. Regular professional grooming prevents matting before it becomes painful. For our furry friends with tangled troubles, we offer dematting services to gently remove knots using top-quality German trimmers and specialized tools made just for cat mats.
A team of two or three groomers works together to safely remove tangles, mats, or pelted fur, minimizing fur loss while keeping your cat calm and comfortable. For cats with extensive matting, a Lion Cut may be recommended to create an even coat. Hair will typically take about four months to return to normal length. At minimum, cats with mats should be bathed after mat removal to clean the skin underneath.
Medication from your veterinarian to help your cat relax is recommended for mats that are tight, extensive, or painful.
